Rogelio Onofre was a sprinter who competed at the 1960, 1964, and 1968 Summer Olympics.
At the age of 20, he joined a relay team and competed in his first Olympic Games in the men’s 4 × 100 m Relay. The team registered 41.4/41.55a but finished fourth in heat 2, failing to qualify in the next round. In the 1964 Olympic Games, he finished 5th in heat 8 of the men’s 100m event. He also finished 7th in heat 5 of the 200m category, failing to advance. In the 4 × 100 m Relay, the Philippines finished 7th in heat 3 in a time of 41.7 secs. In his last Olympics games in 1968, he timed 10.58, just .01 seconds off his national record set in 1962. He finished 6th in heat 6 of the 100 m and 6th in heat 4 of the 110 m hurdles event.For 45 years, Onofre held the men’s 100m National Record - from 1962 until 2007. He was the last Filipino 100m – 200m sprinter to be heralded Asia’s fastest man.
His granddaughter, Zion Corales Nelson who became an athlete like himself, who won a silver in the women's 4x100 meter relay in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
